Kingston is located in Eastern Ontario where
the St.Lawrence river flows out of Lake Ontario.
Situated midway between Toronto and Montreal,
Kingston was named the first capital of the
Province of Canada on February 15, 1841 by Governor
Lord Sydenham. While its time as a political
centre was short, Kingston remained an important
military installation.
Kingston is home to two of Canada`s highest
ranked post-secondary institutions, Queen`s
University and The Royal Military College of
Canada. Renowned as the fresh water capital
of North America, it is a major port to cruise
the famous Thousand Islands. Kingston is an
eclectic mix of old and new, offering neighbourhoods
steeped in history as well as a flourishing
market of new home construction in well situated
areas of the city and surrounding areas. Kingston
is nicknamed `the limestone city` because of
the many historic buildings built from the local
limestone.
Offering something for everyone, residents and
visitors to Kingston will find themselves impressed
with all that our city has to offer. Whether
dining at one of the fabulous restaurants, enjoying
live music at various venues, catching a sunset
ceremony at Old Fort Henry, or just strolling
the downtown streets and catching a glimpse
of one of the hometown boys from The Tragically
Hip, Kingston will never cease to amaze you.
